Hi, Thank you for joining me!
A bit about me...I was born in Sussex in England. I struggle with anxiety and a little bit of an introvert who enjoys being in their own safe bubble with a love for stationary! There's just something about a new journal or a notebook, not just me? I even have one in the non-fiction category above. Growing up my family moved to Holland where I joined a Dutch school and made many good friends and have fond memories of my years living there until our return to England in the late seventies. I now live with my husband and in a 500 year old pub looking after feral cats which we have just outside of London. I have one daughter who has flown the nest carving out her own wonderful life in the world and given me the most wonderful gift~grandchildren.
As well as a business owner of our beautiful old pub, I am a Creative Entrepreneur and an ASMR content creator, I write different genres to full fill my creative appetite and imagination as an author, as well as using books and ASMR to free myself, help ease stress and relax~happiness should not be left to chance. Some days it's about freeing yourself from yourself and I find writing and creating does this and I'd like to share it with you and hear your stories too.
...Why Sleeping Lions Publishers?
Well, simply I am a Leo & this is something that I've wanted to do all of my life, so now I have woken my sleeping lion within me to 'Publish Her.'
...Why The 'One Woman Series' of Books & YouTube Channel?
Because we deserve to be true & kind to ourselves. Hopefully gently inspiring and teaching each other by sharing. With tips & words on learning how to accept what you already have and to encourage you to follow your dreams. In my eyes it's not about seeking self help advice or finding yourself but instead creating what you want to be and for each of us to self share. Together we grow a little.
...What is ASMR?
ASMR means (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) It is a physical sensation which usually begins in the crown of the head, forcing your eyes to droop and often works its way down the spine. The feeling is like a fuzziness often described as tingles and can occur when hearing certain sounds, a soft voice, watching someone else carefully perform a task or receiving personal attention, such as a head massage. The ASMR sensation is exceptionally relaxing and the videos made on You tube are to trigger that feeling. Still scoffed by many, but the popularity since they began in 2009 has grown tremendously and there is now a huge worldwide ASMR community, who recognise and appreciate all the benefits this feeling can give you. Viewers of all ages and varying backgrounds have described how watching ASMR videos have helped them to overcome insomnia, anxiety, PTSD and times of depression.
For me...This lovely peaceful feeling has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child I was sensitive, introverted and definitely a daydreamer, which is where my writing has also taken me. Over time the tingles became a soothing handy tool, something to help me relax and sleep to easing symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.
For you... Did you ever ask your friends or family to draw letters on your back? Look forward to story time at school? Love watching the teacher write on the blackboard? Like having your hair played with? Really enjoy haircuts, eye tests, watching the cashier count notes in a bank? Love drifting off to the sound of other school pupils putting their pencils away? Watching drawing or cooking programs on the TV? Listening and watching someone flipping the pages of a magazine? Did any of these things make you feel what you thought were shivers down your back or fuzziness in your head? Did they make you feel quite dreamy and sleepy? If so then you are ASMR sensitive. Be grateful! as some do not and I believe it is a natural tool that we should use to reset our factory settings when things need calming. After all something that helps us relax or sleep is great for the body and the mind! And when both are nurtured we perform much better.
...What can you find on my website?
I hope firstly a friend, but from my non fiction books and my blog also practical advice, encouragement, maybe inspiration and some chit chat mixed with some blah blah blah. With ways to free yourself from others validating you and together inspiring a healthier attitude. As for my fiction, it's an ideal distraction from real life and a world to escape into!
In the SHOP you'll find products and links I use and recommend from being an author and creator, to items I recommend from someone in their 50's along with items I just love that I would like to share with you.
Let's together, start making better choices & enjoying those happy moments... Nikki x
